New Tax Preparer Rules Imposed
The IRS released a statement last week outlining the steps used to identify tax preparers with criminal tax convictions or permanent injunctions.
According to the statement, more than 700,000 tax preparers have registered for a PTIN and the IRS is continuing to register up to 2,000 additional preparers each week. Oversight of these preparers is managed through a database that is administered by the IRS’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). The OPR has identified 19 tax preparers who failed to disclose a criminal tax conviction or permanent injunction in their PTIN applications.
These preparers have been contacted by the IRS with a proposal to revoke their PTINs. According to the IRS, preparers who face revocation have 20 days to file a response and provide written support to defend their PTINs.
The identification of these 19 preparers is just one of several attempts to expand and improve the oversight of the tax preparation industry. The IRS plans to review tax returns prepared with an identifying number other than a PTIN, and returns that were prepared with no identifying number. The IRS is also developing a process to discover returns that appear professionally prepared, but lack a preparer signature. According to IRS Commissioner Shulman, “Compliance with regulations that require the signing of a tax return by a paid preparer and use of the PTIN is central to our enforcement effort.”

This was my 13th year using Drake Software and as always the program is superb along with customer service being great. I will not change from Drake as long as I am in this business and have a need for the tax program.
I have worked for other software vendors as well as using their software. I have in the past with other software vendors had to wait from 15 to 30 minutes on hold before someone can assist me with a problem. At Drake the phone is answered immediately with a support tech has total knowledge of the program.
I was a mystery shopper at the IRS show in Atlanta and during shopping all the software vendors, I decided if I went into business for myself, I would use Drake Software.
This was the best decision I have made for my office. Thank you DRAKE and all your great employees.

Drake is really good.I have used Lacerte, ProSeries, Creative Solutions and Pro Fx, but when i started on my own preferred Drake.

I get my new PITIN 07 months ago; I am start using Drake since 2008 and we don’t plan change it.

I have been with Drake many years. First as a pay per return user and when my practice grew I started to use the full program. They were helpful in setting up my networks and other technical problems. Not only is their software and support TOPS they are just plain good people. I’ve never had a question that they couldn’t solve ar direct me to a source that could. As you can tell I love my software and its people.
When I converted to Drake two years ago I consulted several of my peers before switching from Lacerte that I had been using since 1993.. All of their glowing reports have been realized with my own personal experience.

I was the first Electronic Filer in Connecticut, and still hold the EFIN 060001. I have used Drake since long before Electronic Filing was even drempt of, (around 1975), and could not fathom running my practice with the best software going…and I’ve sampled them all ! I think back of the early Drake DOS software, and how far it has come since…and it gets better every year.
